    about the artist
Sonja Bryer : A premier doll artist and sculptor made dolls in the late 1970s and 80s by hand in her studio sourcing out all the materials herself and hiring people to help her with clothing. At that early time she made low limited edition or One Offs such as this sweet baby made in 1984. Because the work was hand and time intensive.
This doll is a G.O.O.D. sculpt, poured painted and fired by Sonja herself.
The body and dress were sourced out, (made and tagged by Louise Henderson).
This baby was not a large edition doll, her first dolls were one offs and small editions.
Later in the 90s Sonja began to work with The Danbury mint, Franklin mint and she sculpted for Marie Osmond. At this time her editions were much larger and most of the work was outsourced according to her first prototype piece, giving her time to work on her limited editions and hold doll making classes.
She now works making portrait dolls which start at 800.00 to 1800.0.
Her early limited editions or one offs like this baby are rare. They were not cheap dolls in the 1980s.  Inspired by the antique character and molded hair dolls her early dolls are adorable, hard to find and very collectable.
