Description
Our family is ready to let go of our beloved “Grey Goose”- a well maintained and rarely used1986 Volvo 240 DL 4-Speed + Overdrive Wagon
with approximately 180,000 miles (exact mileage unknown), a leather interior, and title in hand. It features the original B230F red block 2.3 Liter Quad Cylinder Engine. The manual transmission and the overdrive gear still works great! We also just had an oil change last week.
This has been a wonderful second vehicle that we have cared for these past 15 years! We used it for some errands on the weekends but it was rarely used. We bought it with a clean title from the original owner, an older gentleman that kept the car garaged and wasn’t used much. It had a working odometer when we bought it but it broke at 160,701 miles a few years ago. I can't imagine we put more than 20,000 miles on it after that point.
The car is in excellent mechanical condition. And it’s fun to drive! Well-suspended and built like a tank. The manual transmission is very hard to find in this vehicle and makes the car super responsive. The car headliner looks pristine, which is uncommon for how old the car is. The body is in great shape overall but does have a couple of surface rust spots. The frame and undercarriage are free of corrosion. Overall the car does have some areas of cosmetic wear but is looking much better than average for a 36-year-old car. (See photos) Some TLC would make it shine..
Here is some new replacements under the hood (with mechanic documentation):
Complete set of spin-balanced tires
Car Battery with cables
Water Pump
Front Break Hoses
Fuel Pump Relay
Power steering reservoir
Alternator and oil pressure wires
This wagon has some features that are
not working
as of right now:
Rear Windshield Washer
Left turn signal indicator light on instrument panel remains on at all times (however it blinks when signaling)
Air conditioning blows warm (Heat works beautifully!)
Broken Wagon liftgate support- this is a very inexpensive part to replace:

We
live in North Tacoma, Washington, which is 45 minutes away from Seattle. It is bittersweet that we are ready to give the “Grey Goose” a new home; we hope you will treasure it as much as we have.
Thanks so much!

** Please message for additional photos. eBay will only allow up to 18 photos on the listing. We can send you more through Messaging.**
Others have asked about the following -- posting our responses here for all to see/benefit from:
> Q: "I
am wondering if you have a buy it now price available for this wagon?"
> A: We'd
like to see how the auction proceeds for a few more days before deciding on a Buy It Now price. But we would definitely consider an offer. Feel free to make one!
> Q: "
How old is the clutch?"
> A: We
honestly don't know how old the clutch is, but it's really in good condition, not a lot of play, and works great. No issues there whatsoever.
> Q: "When is the last time the a/c worked?"
> A: We don't know. We never used or needed it -- until recent years, WA state summers were not terribly hot. The heat is amazing and works great.
> Q: "Does the blower motor make any noise other than whirring (squeaking, squealing, screaming, moaning, etc)?"
> A: No.
> Q: "Are you really sure you want to sell this?"
> A:
We are sure we want to sell it, although it was a difficult choice. It's a great car. We just don't need it anymore, and it wants (begs, actually) to be driven.

A couple more notes on condition:
1) The car has never been in an accident and has no body damage or dents.
2) The exterior paint is faded and "streaky" in parts, especially on the hood, the top of the car, and on the side mirrors. Have detailed photos, please request.
3) There is NO rust in the wheel wells or around the windows, including the rear window. The only rust is in the single spot documented in the photo in the listing, on the edge of the floorboard, under the driver's door. There is a small section of paint that has flaked off by the passenger headlight; rust has developed there. It' is approximately 1" wide and 2" long. Have a photo, please request.
4) A few of the plastic components in the interior are cracked or broken -- the side "map" pockets, in particular, and the top of the seatbelt housing (female end). Have more photos, please request if desired.
5) There is a tiny crack on the dashboard. Very localized, less than 2" long. Have detailed photos, please request.
6) The "third" brake light on the rear windshield is not fixed in position and dangles. As having an operable "third" brake light was not legally required here in WA state, we never worried about this but did want to disclose.
7) All the leather seats are in beautiful condition with only one tear, in the driver's seat. Have detailed photos, please request.
8) The radio antennae is broken off about 2/3 of the way up but still works fine. Have detailed photos, please request. [Both factory radio & cassette deck work great. Factory speakers sound good!]
9) There is a crack in the headlight cover on the passenger side. Does not leak or affect functionality. Can send photos upon request.
10) Tires have good tread -- can send detailed photos.
11) The automatic locks work great. Occasionally the front passenger door refuses to lock/unlock with the rest of them when using the driver's side key-unlock and has to be raised (or lowered) manually. The rear hatch lock also sometimes refuses to cooperate with the other ones and can require locking separately by key.
12) We have two keys for the car.
13) The rear defrost works great. The rear windshield wiper has accepted early retirement (but could perhaps be coaxed back into working, with incentives.)
**
We believe that some of the surface wear and tear is offset by the fact that there are other areas that show remarkably little wear, such as the headliner and the leather seats. **
