    1980
    Volvo 242DL Coupe
    Rare “Flat Hood” Model
Recently filmed for an upcoming Hollywood movie
My first encounter with this classic Swedish Brick “Flat Hood” came in 1990 when my high school age daughter’s friend purchased it from Ravenna Volvo here in Seattle.  After a year of driving, he stored it in his parent’s garage when leaving for college followed by law school.  Remembering my love of Volvos, he contacted me in 1997 and I purchased the coupe with only 27,000 miles.  Having spent its entire life in snow-free Western Washington State, the car has always been garaged and maintained while being kept out of our rainy weather.  There’s been absolutely no exposure to any rust-producing road salts.  We’re downsizing for retirement and moving out-of-state to live near our daughter and her family, so it’s sadly time to part with our twenty-five-year mechanical family member.
As part of my past business, we’ve often leased vehicles to movie and television production companies filming in the area.  The 242DL was used last September as a backround star in a Hollywood film shot here in western Washington.  You’ll be able to see it up on the screen in early 2023.  I’ll be sure to include a copy of the film company production pass along with the title when the Volvo goes to the next caretaker.
    Here’s a brief condition description:
Coming new from the Volvo Kalmar plant in "Ice Blue", the paint was redone to the factory color seven years ago.  You won’t find any scratches, dents, fading clearcoat or front-end rock chips. I also replaced the windshield at that time (and still have the factory chrome trim if wanted).  There are no bulls-eye chips or cracks, and all other glass is original.  Back in 1999 we searched for a set of vintage Virago’s but I loved the 15-inch Volvo DRACO alloys on my wife's 740 Turbo Wagon and located a set of them instead.  Each is straight and true with no curb rash.  The four matching 195/60R15 touring radials have at least 90% remaining tread all-around.  The photos show the original factory Volvo spare and jack are still stored in the trunk.
On the interior, all gauge’s function including the dash tach and clock.  The factory AM-FM radio works fine but plays only from the left door speaker.  I can't say enough about the excellent original upholstery that shows very little wear.  The carpets have been protected for years with RENSI fitted heavy vinyl mats, but there is some heel wear beneath on the driver’s side.  As is the bane of almost all Volvo 240 owners, a new blower motor switch is needed.  I’ve rarely driven the car much in the winter and haven’t needed the fan to operate.  The heater and vents pump out plenty of air while driving all on their own.
The original red block B-21F engine is still in place under the hood fed by stock K-Jet fuel injection.  Neither has ever experienced any major problems.  Regular oil changes have always been done. I just had one of Seattle's best Volvo shops (Swedish Automotive) go over the car earlier this month and they replaced the fuel injector seals. A complete tune-up was also done.
No issues ever with the M45 four-speed transmission. My regular mechanic replaced the clutch and machined the flywheel at 70K miles in 2012.  IPD front and rear sway bars and firewall stabilizer struts were added that same year.  I personally replaced the old plastic factory belly pan with an IPD aluminum skid plate while the coupe was in winter storage.  Because of low miles the engine has never needed to be apart. Volvo recommends a timing belt replacement every 50,000 miles and it was done at the 55K mile mark back in 2007 as evidenced by the cover sticker.  I recently purchased a complete IPD timing belt replacement kit (including a new water pump) expecting to tackle the reasonably easy task myself in a year or so as 95,000 miles approached.  I’ll be sure to pass the kit along to the next caretaker.
All-in-all, I wouldn’t hesitate to drive cross-country in this car today!
Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid!  You’re welcome to stop by, inspect the Coupe at my Auburn, WA warehouse and take it for a test drive.  As a respected
    Ebay seller
with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that the Volvo runs and drives well AND that it's properly represented to you!  Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up as NO used vehicle is ever perfect.  As always, it’s being sold “as-is, where-is” with a clean, free & clear Washington State title in my name.
Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any
    negative feedback
    .
I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on
    Ebay
contact me before placing their bid.
Please feel free to contact me directly through eBay’s message system or, as outlined above, call me at
    206/914-1173
    anytime.  My name is
    MARK
    .
A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:
A 0 deposit (paid to Ebay) is required within 24 hours of the auction’s end.
The balance of the purchase price is due by cash (in-person only), a wire transfer or other certified funds within seven days of the auction closing.  I can accept credit/debit cards for the balance but will first need to send an invoice from our card processor and will include the 3.25% fee charged by them.  Please remember you are bidding to buy, and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract!  You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.
If you decide to have the Volvo shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from.  While the company chosen is the responsibility of the
    BUYER
, I ship vehicles regularly and have access to the nationwide
    Central Dispatch
    System
.  I can check to see what typical delivery costs have been to your area recently and we can then post a transport offer for the car at a fair price.  Usually, a shipper is lined up within just a few days.  You’ll pay the transport company driver COD when they arrive with the vehicle.  No upfront deposit or other hassles.
The 242DL can be stored free of charge at my location for up to fourteen days after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received.  After that period storage is per day.
